Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. -- Margaret Mead

Stryker Brigade Military Readiness Center in Bradford, PA Completed
May 11, 2010

Ikan was selected by Kandefer Plumbing as the plumbing design consultant for the 33,000 sq ft Stryker Brigade Readiness Center located in Bradford, PA, adjacent to the Bradford Regional Airport.

Entire project was designed to comply with the SPiRiT Gold Certification. SPiRiT stands for Sustainable Project Rating Tool and follows the USBGC's LEED Rating System Guidelines.

SPiRiT is similar to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) in that it is a rating tool that offers a checklist, strategies, and scores to create and maintain sustainable facilities, and to plan improvements to the process of planning, programming, designing, building, and maintaining sustainable facilities.

SPiRiT, which is based on the USGBC's LEED version 2, and which is tailored to Army-specific needs, embodies accepted energy and environmental principles.

According to the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, using the tool helps users:

• preserve a clean environment
• maintain sustainable site
• maximize water efficiency
• lower ongoing costs, conserve energy and preserve the atmosphere
• conserve materials and resources
• improve the facility delivery process
• ensure success in current and future missions
• provide healthy places to live and work

Construction for this project was completed in early 2009 and features water conservation measures including waterless urinals, low-flow showers, metering faucets, and dual flush water closets.
